WELCOME TO FISHANISTAS

MEET JEANINE

FOUNDER/CEO

Jeanine is particularly passionate about increasing representation and providing educational opportunities for Black women in the fields of fishing and marine biology. Having witnessed firsthand the systemic barriers and lack of fair access, she is committed to breaking down those obstacles and empowering more Black women to embrace careers and hobbies in aquatic sciences and recreation. Through mentorship programs, outreach initiatives, and a supportive sisterhood, Fishanistas strives to be a beacon of inspiration and a catalyst for positive change in the fishing and marine conservation spheres.

With her infectious enthusiasm, visionary leadership, and deep-rooted belief in the power of nature to bring people together, Jeanine Blair and the Fishanistas organization continue to make waves. Their mission to foster a love of fishing, promote marine stewardship, and create a more inclusive and equitable community on the water resonates with women from all walks of life, united by a shared passion for the boundless wonders of the aquatic realm.

Jeanine Blair is the visionary founder of Fishanistas, a groundbreaking organization dedicated to empowering women and girls through the joy of fishing and marine education. Born and raised in the small town of Kennett, Missouri, Jeanine's love for the water and angling was ignited at a young age by her Uncle John, who introduced her to the amazing world of fishing.

From those humble beginnings casting lines in local streams and ponds, Jeanine's passion for the aquatic realm only grew stronger. She went on to have five beautiful daughters, all of whom she enthusiastically taught to fish and appreciate the wonders of marine life. As her girls grew into women with families of their own, Jeanine recognized the transformative power fishing could have on bringing women together in an enriching, supportive community.

With an unwavering determination to uplift and unite women of all backgrounds, Jeanine founded Fishanistas in 2010. What began as a small local group has blossomed into an extraordinary nationwide network of skilled anglers, marine biologists, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts. Fishanistas' core mission is to create an inclusive environment where women can hone their fishing abilities, cultivate a deep appreciation for marine ecosystems, and forge lasting bonds of friendship and camaraderie on the water.

MEET RITA

Rita Ware Age: 53 Interests: Fishing, Nature, Mental Health Awareness Rita Ware is not your typical angler. At 53 years old, she's found solace and purpose at the intersection of mental health advocacy and fishing. Born and raised near the lakes & rivers in North Georgia, Rita developed a deep connection with nature from a young age. However, it wasn't until later in life, amidst her own struggles with anxiety and depression, that she discovered the healing power of fishing. With a passion for helping others, Rita is a vocal advocate for mental health awareness. She recognized the transformative effects that spending time outdoors can have on one's well-being and saw fishing as a therapeutic outlet worth sharing. Rita embarked on a mission to promote the benefits of nature-based activities for healing. As an avid angler, Rita spends her weekends casting lines into tranquil lakes and meandering rivers. Whether she's catfishing in the misty morning fog or simply sitting quietly by the water's edge, Rita finds peace in the rhythmic motion of casting and reeling. It's during these moments that she feels most connected to herself and the world around her. In addition to her personal fishing pursuits, Rita actively engages with her community to foster a supportive environment for mental health awareness. Through her personal journeys, Rita try's to empower individuals to embrace nature as a tool for mental wellness and encourages conversations about mental health that are open, honest, and free of judgment. Rita Ware is proof that age is no barrier to pursuing your passions and making a difference in the world. With a fishing rod in hand and a heart full of compassion, she continues to cast hope and healing into the lives of those around her, one catch at a time.

I was able to get out on the water today & caught some fish!! After my dad passed away in January, I'm truly glad I went. Going fishing helped uplift my spirits & my mental health during such a challenging time. Engaging in activities that bring solace, peace, and joy can be immensely beneficial when coping with loss or trauma. Fishing, with its tranquil surroundings and meditative nature, can offer a respite from grief and provide a space for reflection and healing. It's essential to recognize the importance of self-care and finding moments of solace amidst grief or whatever you may be facing. Whether it's fishing, spending time in nature, engaging in hobbies, or simply taking quiet moments for yourself, allowing yourself these moments of respite can contribute significantly to your overall well-being. Remember to be gentle with yourself as you navigate through any difficult process. Embrace the activities and experiences that bring you comfort and provide a sense of connection with yourself and your surroundings. And if you ever need support or someone to talk to, don't hesitate to reach out to loved ones, your Fishanistas family, friends, or professional counselors who can offer understanding and guidance. Wishing you continued strength, healing, and moments of peace!

I have participated in land based shark fishing is something I really enjoy. I enjoy catching any and every type of fish whether it is catch or release. I will targeting Cobia and Amberjacks and Trigger fish on my next charter. Fishing is very important to me due to my dad and grandparents exposing.me to something that is very therapeutic and relaxing. I have met a lot of wonderful people on the piers and in various fishing groups that I am greatful that I have crossed paths with people who love fishing as much as I do. My dream is to educate and expose children to the same experience I had as a child to be able to enjoy fishing whether it is freshwater or saltwater. My goal is to fish Big Rock in Morehead within the next 2 years. Fishing is Life.. Fishing is Love. Stay tuned to Frankie's Fish Tales. Tightlines

MEET TAYLOR

My name is Taylor I grew up fishing fresh water all my life starting at the age of 2. Later on in life I found my love for salt water and quickly found out I love chasing big reds and sharks. The water means everything to me I have found the water was a safe place for me when I was healing from an abusive relationship. It was where nothing mattered the trauma and anxiety that I carried around from it went away. It’s like the waves pulled away all the bad vibes in my body and took them out to sea to never be worried about again. Fishing for me is more than a sport it’s therapy and now going through a divorce that almost broke me I released so much! Fishanistas was more than a group they where my family and were there for me every step of the way I had so many people surrounding me and cheering me on they have not let me fall. I had many nights crying to my Fishanistas family that stuck by me. I do not know what I would have done without them. Fishanistas is more than a group it’s a safe place for ALL with no judgement.
